History

The Mississippi Society of Washington, D.C. is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the best interests of our state in our Nation's Capital. Founded in 1892, the Mississippi Society is the second oldest active state society in Washington.
The active members include Governor Haley Barbour, the Congressional Delegation and their staffs, active and retired military, federal agency and professional association staffers, attorneys, lobbyists, businessmen, college students and just folks who have settled in this area from Mississippi. Currently we are approximately 400 members strong.
Annual membership dues are $20 per person or $35 per couple and may be paid through the website or through the mail.The Mississippi Society meets several times per year for social and philanthropic functions. The flagship event is Mississippi on the Mall which takes place annually on the fourth Saturday in June. A listing of the upcoming events for this year is on the "Events" page.
The Mississippi Society is a member of the National Conference of State Societies (http://ncss.typepad.com/).
